Powder Ridge has had a difficult financial history, but since it first opened in 1961, it has been a favorite of Connecticut and New York skiers. The area closed in 2007, but it was purchased, rehabilitated, and reopened for the 2013-2014 season, and welcomed with lots of goodwill from old-time fans who remember its most active years. Twenty trails from bunny to black diamond; a full half-pipe terrain park. Equipment rentals; lessons; racing teams. Welcoming to all ages.

Mount Southington ski area covers 51 acres of skiable and has two terrain parks and 14 trails for all levels of ability. Easy drive from New Haven and Hartford. Affordable and family-friendly. Deals include the Frequent Skier Passport, which may be used every day, once per day, and all season, for $60. A first-time package and an advanced package include lesson and lift tickets for a reasonable price. One hundred percent snowmaking. Cafeteria and other dining, shops, rentals, ski school and snowboarding school.

Trails are available for all levels of skill; terrain parks offer jumps, hits, ramps, banks, fun boxes, jibs, rails, half pipes, quarter pipes, and mogul terrain. Small-group and private lessons for age four and older in small classes. Adaptive lessons for disabled people. Lesson packages.
Season passes and discounted mid-week 12-pack of passes. Pass protection allows pro-rated rebate of season pass if skier is injured and unable to ski. Equipment rentals and repairs. Cafeteria; outdoor deck with barbecue on weekends.

Mohawk Mountain Ski Area

The oldest and largest ski area in Connecticut and sometimes called the home of snowmaking in the state. First Experience Day welcomes newcomers to the sport. Deals and discounts for 4th graders, active military, college students. Packages for beginning skiers and snowboarders as well as mountain masters. Pre-order packages at online store to reduce wait time.

Dining at the mountain in the base lodge and lodging and dining in the town of Cornwall. Restaurant and cafeteria, renovated learning center area, ski and snowboard rentals. Open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; weekends, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
